Vermilion RCMP arrest five in stolen truck

Vermilion, Alberta – On Feb. 12, 2020, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Vermilion RCMP responded to a report of a stolen truck in Mannville, Alta.

A traffic stop was attempted on Highway 16 westbound but the vehicle did not stop. RCMP did not continue to follow the vehicle due to safety concerns.

As a result of the coordinated efforts of RCMP Air Services and a number of nearby RCMP units, a tire deflation device was deployed with success. The vehicle came to a stop in the Josephburg area after turning off Highway 16.

RCMP arrested five occupants without incident.

As a result of further investigation, Samantha Binkowski (28) of no fixed address, Erin Brown (41) of Bruderheim, Alta., Morgan Parker (26) of Edmonton, David Desroches (32) of no fixed address and Patrick Hurley (41) of Bruderheim, Alta., are jointly charged with:

• Theft of truck

• Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x2)

• Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2)

• Break and enter to a business (x2)

• Break and enter to a dwelling

• Flight from police

• Possession of break-in instruments

Binkowski was also charged with fail to comply with conditions of release.

Brown was also charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Parker was also charged with fail to comply with conditions of release (x2).

Desroches was also charged with wearing a disguise while committing an offence.

Hurley was also charged with fail to comply with conditions of release and wearing a disguise while committing an offence.

Following judicial hearings, Binkowski was remanded in custody pending payment of cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on Mar. 2, 2020; Brown was released to appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on Mar. 2, 2020; Parker was remanded in custody pending payment of cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on Mar. 2, 2020; Desroches was remanded into custody to appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on Mar. 2, 2020; and Hurley was remanded into custody to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Feb. 18, 2020.
