UPDATE 3: Missing Person Case Comes to Sad Conclusion, 2nd Degree Murder Charge Laid: Airdrie RCMP

Airdrie, Alberta – The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested and charged a male in relation to a death reported on Feb. 17, 2020.

Hunter Van Mackelberg (19) of Airdrie has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of Kalix Langenau (19).

He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Airdrie Provincial Court on Feb. 27, 2020 via CCTV.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be released.

BACKGROUND

February 24, 2020

Airdrie, Alta. – An autopsy has been completed and RCMP can now confirm the identity of the male located deceased in a rural area southeast of Airdrie as Kalix Langenau. The manner of death has been deemed a homicide.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate and are asking anyone that may have been in the area of Cross Iron Mill, Range Road 290 and Township Road 264 between the hours of 1 to 3 a.m., on Feb 15, 2020 to contact them if you witnessed anything suspicious. If you were in this area and have any dash camera footage police would like to speak with you.

BACKGROUND

Airdrie, Alberta – On Feb. 17, 2020, Airdrie RCMP located a deceased male in a rural area southeast of Airdrie.

An autopsy is expected to be completed this week but police believe that the male is Kalix Langenau who was reported missing and was last seen in NE Calgary in the early morning hours on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.

The RCMP Major Crimes unit are now assisting with this investigation and no further information will be made at this time pending autopsy.

Airdrie RCMP seeking public assistance to locate missing male

Airdrie, Alta. – The Airdrie RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 19-year-old, Kalix Langenau, missing from Airdrie. He was last seen in NE Calgary in the early morning hours on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.

Kalix Langenau is described as:

• 5’10” tall

• 146 lbs.

• Slim build

• Short brown hair

• Brown eyes

• Black hoodie

• Baseball cap

• Cowboy boots

Kalix LANGENAU is believed to be somewhere in the area of Airdrie. There is a concern for his well being.
