Bay St. George RCMP investigates suspected drug-impaired driver

Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador – A 36-year-old Stephenville man is now under investigation for suspected drug-impaired driving following a report received by Bay St. George RCMP at approximately 8:45 a.m. this morning.

Police located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of drug impairment. He was arrested and transported to the detachment where he completed a drug recognition evaluation. Officers are waiting for the results of the testing to determine if he will be charged.

The driver was issued a driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was seized and impounded.

RCMP NL reminds drivers that it is illegal to drive while impaired by a drug and that in addition to illegal drugs, many prescription drugs can impair a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle. Officers have the ability to test drivers for drug-impaired driving.
