Grande Prairie RCMP pursuit ends in arrest

Clairmont, Alberta – Two adult males are in custody after leading RCMP on a pursuit that ended at Range Road 62 and Township Road 730.

In the early morning hours of February 28, the Grande Prairie Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was conducting patrols in the Clairmont industrial area when they observed a suspicious vehicle, later determined to be stolen from Grande Prairie. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however, the suspect vehicle made efforts to evade police by ramming the police vehicle. The suspect then fled the area leading CRU and additional officers from Grande Prairie on an 11-minute pursuit.

During the pursuit the suspects deployed bear spray in an attempt to deter police from following. The pursuit came to an end at Range Road 62 and Township Road 730 where the suspect vehicle became stuck in deep snow after attempting to cross a field. The passenger was arrested at the scene without incident. The driver was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Spencer WILSON (30) of Valleyview has been charged with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• Assault on a police officer with a weapon x 2

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

• Flight while being pursued by police

• Resist arrest

• Operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license

• Operating a motor vehicle without insurance

Andrew MOORES (19) of Grande Prairie has been charged with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

WILSON and MOORES have been remanded in custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial court on March 2, 2020.
