Mayerthorpe RCMP arrest three in armed robbery, spike belt deployed

Sangudo, Alberta – On March 21, 2020, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Mayerthorpe RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the Liquor Stop in Sangudo.

Two males wearing masks entered the store, producing a bat and a firearm. Once inside, one of the males sprayed several employees with pepper spray, while the other male removed the cash register. Both males then departed the store also taking several bottles of liquor. The two males got into a waiting vehicle with a third person as the driver and fled the scene.

Mayerthorpe RCMP located the vehicle shortly after receiving the call. A pursuit of the fleeing vehicle ensued, as it travelled towards Barrhead on a rural road. Barrhead RCMP assisted in the pursuit and deployed a tire deflation device to incapacitate the vehicle. All three were taken into custody without further incident.

Darwin Wolf Hallock (24) of Grande Cache, Norman Billy Wanyandie (37) of Grande Cache and Annie Moberly (36) of Spruce Grove were charge with multiple offences, some of which include:

• Armed robbery

• Assault

• Pointing a firearm

• Wearing a disguise in the commission of an offence

• Flight from police

Hallock and Wanyandie have been remanded into custody after a judicial hearing. Moberly has since been released on conditions. The three accused are scheduled to appear in Mayerthorpe Provincial Court on June 11, 2020.
