Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged a 36-year-old man with drug and weapons offences after a loaded revolver and significant quantities of cash, methamphetamine, cocaine and carfentanil were seized from a vehicle.
On April 7, 2020 at approximately 8 a.m. a citizen reported a suspicious vehicle along the 1400 block of 14 Street North. The vehicle was parked, but still running with the driver asleep behind the wheel. Police attended and awoke the driver who initially provided false name. After being correctly identified, police determined the male was breaching conditions of a house arrest in Calgary. Upon exiting the vehicle the male attempted to flee and a short foot pursuit ensued before he was taken into custody. During a search incidental to arrest, police seized nearly 990 grams of methamphetamine, 437 grams of cocaine and nearly 47 grams of carfentanil. In addition, a loaded .44 caliber revolver that had been stolen out of Stettler, AB, ammunition, two knives, nearly $19,000 in cash and a locked safe were also recovered. The combined street value of the drugs totals nearly $136,000.
Michael Newman Davies, 36, of Calgary, is charged with:
Knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm
Five counts of failing to comply with release order conditions
Unauthorized possession of a firearm/weapon in vehicle
Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
Possession of a firearm/weapon obtained by an offence
Three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
Trafficking in property or proceeds over $5,000
Possession of stolen property under $5,000
Attempted obstruction of justice
Resisting a peace officer
Careless use/storage of a firearm
Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing Davies was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 9.
