Rockyview County, Alberta – Following an investigation by the Airdrie Rural RCMP, along with the assistance of the RCMP Collision Analyst, Highway 9 was reopened to traffic in the evening on April 8, 2020.
Preliminary investigation indicates that on April 8, 2020, at approximately 1 p.m., a car was heading eastbound on Highway 566 and at the intersection with Highway 9, it proceeded and collided with the fuel tanks of the semi-trailer unit that was travelling northbound on Highway 9.
The driver and lone occupant of the car, a 35-year-old male from Calgary, was transported from the scene by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital. He later died as a result of his injuries sustained in the collision. His name will not be released. The semi-trailer driver and lone occupant was not injured.
A quantity of diesel fuel spilled out of the semi-truck on the scene and was cleaned up by hazardous materials crews.
No charges are anticipated and no further updates will be provided.
BACKGROUND
Rockyview County, Alberta – (2:12 PM) Airdrie Rural RCMP are investigating a serious injury three vehicle collision involving a sem-trailer at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 566 near Keoma, Alberta.
Traffic is stopped north and southbound Highway 9 at that location to allow police, fire and EMS to work safely.
