Yellowknife RCMP put a stop to an illegal liquor distribution operation

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020, RCMP were patrolling downtown Yellowknife when they noticed what appeared to be illegal liquor sale activity coming from an apartment building on 47th Street.

The Yellowknife RCMP General Investigation Section started a Liquor Act investigation and obtained a Search Warrant.

At approximately 3:00 pm, on Friday, April 24th, while executing the warrant, RCMP found on the premises cash and several bottes of 375 ml of vodka and 750 ml of Private Stock fortified wine. Both cash and liquor bottles were seized.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with illegal sale of liquor pursuant to section 74 of the NWT Liquor Act.

“We believe the illegal alcohol was destined to the downtown, vulnerable citizens. The good work of our members and the collaboration of the public have helped reduce the illegal sale of alcohol in our community. The RCMP is dedicated to continuing to work with our partners to curb this illegal activity”, states Insp. Alex Laporte, Yellowknife RCMP Detachment Commander.
