NT RCMP Federal Investigations Unit charge man in drug investigation

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – The Northwest Territories RCMP Federal Investigations Unit (FIU) arrested a man in the parking lot of a local business on April 24, 2020, during a drug investigation.

An RCMP member was on patrol when he saw activity consistent with a drug transaction occurring in the parking lot of a local business. The police officer intervened and formulated grounds to arrest a male adult. A search of the man’s vehicle subsequent to his arrest led to the seizure of approximately 95 grams of cocaine.

A search warrant was then executed at the man’s residence. Inside the residence, police located and seized over $50,000 in Canadian and US currency, approximately three pounds of cannabis, numerous individually packaged doses of Cannabis Resin, and a small quantity of Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms).

Kyle Ormiston, 25-year-old, has been charged with the following offences:

Trafficking Cocaine S. 5(1) CDSA

Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling S. 10(2) Cannabis Act

Possession of Proceeds of Crime Exceeding $5000 S. 354(1)(a) CC

Possession of Psilocybin S. 4(1) CDSA

Kyle Ormiston was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released for court on August 18, 2020.
