Lethbridge man charged with second-degree murder

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged a male with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 43-year-old man last week.

On April 27, 2020 at approximately 6:55 a.m. police responded to a report of an injured male at an apartment building along the 1200 block of 4 Avenue South. Police and EMS attended and located a deceased 43-year-old male inside one of the units.

Investigation by members of the Criminal Investigation Section determined that during the evening of April 26, 2020, the male had been inside his apartment socializing with acquaintances when a physical altercation ensued, resulting in the victim sustaining fatal injuries. When a friend attended the victim’s apartment the following day they found him unresponsive and called for help.

Police subsequently identified a suspect who was arrested on May 1, 2020 without incident and is currently remanded in custody.

Jason Paul James Crane Chief, 27, of Lethbridge, is charged with second-degree murder. Crane Chief is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on May 11, 2020.

The identity of the victim will not be released.
