Redwater RCMP on scene of two vehicle collision on Alberta Highway 28 – UPDATED

Redwater, Alberta – A 46-year-old male driver from Fort McMurray that was in the vehicle containing five occupants, has succumbed to his injuries while in hospital.

The other occupants involved in the collision remain in hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

Redwater RCMP along with a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate and no charges have been laid at this time. All contributing factors are being considered in relation to this collision.

BACKGROUND

Redwater, Alberta – (5:49 PM) Redwater RCMP are currently on scene of a two vehicle collision on Highway 28 and Township Road 574 just west of Redwater.

The highway is blocked and traffic will be re-routed through the Town of Redwater. A collision analyst is enroute and it is anticipated the highway will be blocked for approximately four hours.

The collision involved a vehicle with a single male occupant that was travelling northbound on Highway 28. It collided with a second vehicle containing five occupants that was travelling southbound. The single male driver and three occupants of the southbound vehicle were transported to hospital via ambulance. The two other occupants were transported by STARS ambulance. The level of injuries are unknown at this time.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. There is no further information available at this time.
