Gas on the right, brake on the left

Oceanside, BC – Traffic Services – An officer with BC RCMP Traffic Services Parksville came across an unusual sight as he was driving on Highway 4 through Coombs, BC, on the evening of May 5, 2020.

The officer observed two motorcycles travelling together – literally. The operator of the lead motorcycle (the ‘gas’) was towing the second motorcycle (the ‘brake’) with a rope! The officer turned around to stop the two individuals who had unsuccessfully attempted to duck off the highway behind a nearby building. Things did not improve from there.

The officer determined that neither operator had a valid drivers licence, neither motorcycle belonged to either of the operators and neither motorcycle was insured. In addition, one of the operators exhibited signs of impairment and was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition. Both operators were served tickets for No Drivers Licence and No Insurance and released at the scene. The motorcycles were towed to a secure location until ownership can be established.

This is a reminder to motorists that officers from BC RCMP Traffic Services are continuing enforcement during the COVID-19 pandemic and they are committed to reducing high risk driving behaviour and keeping our roads safe.
