Toronto Police Arrest Five Men, Lay 30 Charges in Abduction of 14-Year-Old Male, UPDATED

Toronto, Ontario – On Thursday, May 14, 2020, Chief Mark Saunders announced the arrests of four men as part of an ongoing investigation into the March 2020 abduction of a 14-year-old boy. The Service also published the image and name of a fifth man wanted in the matter.

Following the announcement, the fifth man turned himself in to police at 31 Division.

Solaiman Nassimi, 29, of No Fixed Address, has been charged with:

1. Kidnapping for Ransom

2. Forcible Confinement

3. Break and Enter with Intent

4. Uttering Threats (Bodily Harm)

5. Uttering Threats (Death)

6. Arson

He is next scheduled to appear in court, at 1000 Finch Avenue West, Room 301, on Friday, May 15, 2020.

Court dates for the other arrested parties are as follows:

Samir Abdelgadir is scheduled to appear at 1000 Finch Avenue West, Room 301, on Friday, May 15, 2020.

Liban Hussein and Hamed Shahnawaz are scheduled to appear at 1000 Finch Avenue West, Room 301, on Tuesday, May 19, 2020

Scott McManus is schedule to appear in court, at 1000 Finch Avenue West, Room 301, on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

BACKGROUND

Toronto, Ontario – The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests made as part of an ongoing investigation into the abduction of a 14-year-old boy.

It is alleged that:

– On Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at approximately 8:25 a.m., a 14-year-old boy was in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area

– he was tackled to the ground and carried into a Jeep Wrangler

– he was restrained and held in a remote location in the Castlemore Road and Gore Road area in Brampton

– during the evening hours, the Jeep Wrangler was taken to an area near Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, and burned

– the 14-year-old boy was released in the Wanless Drive and Heritage Road area in Brampton

It is further alleged that:

– at least five men were involved in the planning and execution of the abduction

– it was carried out because one of the men had a significant amount of cocaine stolen by the victim’s brother

After a thorough investigation, involving officers from 31 Division, 12 Division, 23 Division, Toronto Drug Squad and Organized Crime Enforcement, multiple search warrants were executed.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, four men were arrested.

1. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (Kidnapping for Ransom)

2. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (Traffic Cocaine)

3. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine

4. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana

5. Possession of Proceeds of Crime (over $5,000)

6. Possession of Property of Crime

During the search warrants, a fifth man was arrested.

Jeremy Proctor, 25, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine

2. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana

3. Possession of Proceeds of Crime (Over $5000)

4. Possession of Property of Crime

Investigators do not believe he was involved in the abduction.

It is alleged that the following items were seized during the search warrants:

– one kilogram of cocaine

– more than 70 lbs., of marihuana

– approximately $130,000 cash

– body armor

– cellular phones and other electronic devices
