Toronto Police Investigate Homicide #26/2020, Balliol Street and Yonge Street area – UPDATED

Toronto, Ontario – Toronto Police Service Homicide would like to update the public on the investigation into Homicide #26/2020.

On Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 2:07 a.m., police responded to a call for a fire in the Balliol Street and Yonge Street area

It is alleged that:

– there was a fire in the building’s laundry room area

– a man was located with obvious signs of trauma

– the man was pronounced deceased

On Friday, May 15, 2020, Rico Harvey, 27, of Toronto, was arrested.

He has been charged with:

1) one count of Second Degree Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Saturday, May, 16, 2020, at 10 a.m.

BACKGROUND

Toronto, Ontario – The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a homicide investigation.

On Thursday, May 14, at 2:07 a.m., police responded to a fire radio call in the Balliol Street and Yonge Street area.

It is reported:

– there was a fire in the building’s laundry room area

– a man was located with obvious signs of trauma

– the man was pronounced deceased

Homicide investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket with red and black checkered pajamas.

His photograph has been released. If seen, do not approach, immediately contact 911.
