Behchoko RCMP make two alcohol seizures: Northwest Territories

Behchoko, Northwest Territories – Behchoko RCMP have made two alcohol seizures since the temporary alcohol prohibition order was signed by community leaders on May 9th, 2020.

At approximately 8:18 pm, on Tuesday, May 12th, Behchoko RCMP intercepted a vehicle in the community. Police officers found a total of 13 – 375 ml bottles of whiskey and vodka, and a 750 ml bottle of vodka. Behchoko RCMP seized the alcohol.

In the evening of Wednesday, May 13th, Behchoko RCMP were patrolling on the Highway 3, when they stopped a vehicle driving towards Behchoko. Police officers located a total of 3.3 liters of liquor and 48 cans of beer in the vehicle. The alcohol has been seized.

Behchoko RCMP are continuing to investigate these two incidents to determine if the alcohol seized was intended for unlawful sale. No charges have been laid.

“Behchoko RCMP will continue to support our partner agencies and community leaders on all efforts to address substance abuse and the harm it can bring. We are committed to the safety of our community” states Sgt. Ryan Plustwa, Behchoko RCMP Detachment Commander.
