Firearms trafficking charges laid against a Taber man

Taber, Alberta – On May 19, 2020, the Taber Police Service executed a search warrant on a residence in the 5100 block of 45 Avenue. The search warrant was a result of a joint investigation between the Taber Police Service, the Guns and Gangs Unit of the Calgary Police Service, and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST).

It is alleged that a male associated to this residence was involved in firearms trafficking offences that occurred between Taber and the City of Calgary.

As a result of the search warrant a 27 year old male, Dylan Matthew BRAUN, of Taber, has been charged with eight counts of Section 99(1) of the Criminal Code – Firearms Trafficking of Restricted Weapons. BRAUN was also in possession of a stolen 2018 Dodge Ram truck and faces additional charges of Section 355(a) of the Criminal Code – Possess Stolen Property Over $5000 and Section 368(1)(a) of the Criminal Code – Uttering a Forged Document.

BRAUN has been released on bail with release conditions by a justice and will next appear in court in Taber on July 28, 2020.

“This is an excellent example of multiple policing partners working together in the interest of public safety in an effort to stem the flow of firearms being sold illegally and ending up in the hands of criminals” said Sergeant Meggison of the Taber Police Service. “The investigation is ongoing in Calgary, however, there is no indication that there are any further ties to Taber”.
