Edson RCMP respond to complaint of suspicious males, solve several investigations and charge male with multiple crimes

Edson, Alberta – On May 7, 2020, at approximately 7 a.m., Edson RCMP received a complaint of suspicious males possibly breaking into a seacan container belonging to a business in the area of 47 street and 3 avenue in Edson. Edson RCMP detained two males located in the area.

Edson RCMP arrested a 22-year-old from Edson and conducted a search that resulted in the seizure of the following items: a quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine, air soft pistol, bear spray, machete, a stolen driver’s license and other stolen identification cards and stolen vehicle keys. The stolen items are related to a theft of two motor vehicles that occurred in the Edson area on April 20 and April 29, 2020.

As a result of further investigation, Edson RCMP were able to link the suspect to additional stolen property, a theft of motor vehicle and flight from police that occurred in the Edson area on April 21 and 29, 2020.

James Elias Flynn (22) of Edson is charged with the following that relate to four separate investigations as were mentioned above:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x3)

• Possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000 (x2)

• Possession, without lawful excuse, of identity documents that relate to another person

• Possession of a controlled substance (x4) (methamphetamine, oxycodone pills, cocaine)

• Flight from peace officer (x2)

• Possession of stolen property not exceeding $5,000 (x14)

• Possession of break-in instruments

• Theft of motor vehicle

Following a judicial hearing, Flynn was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on May 25, 2020.

Edson RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Kevin Gaal explains that, “Receiving information from the public on crimes committed in our communities supports the benefits that can result when we work together. One call being placed to the Edson RCMP in this matter resulted in an in-depth investigation and the solving of numerous crimes. The number of crimes that may have been prevented by arresting and charging this individual may be hard to measure, but surely has had an impact on the community.”
