Canadian Coast Guard concludes search efforts; fourth crew member of the Sarah Anne now considered a missing person

Marystown, Newfoundland and Labrador – Last night, the RCMP was advised by the Canadian Coast Guard that after an intensive search spanning 650 nautical miles, it has concluded its efforts to find the fourth crew member of the fishing vessel the Sarah Anne off the coast of the Burin Peninsula. Sadly, the crew member was not located and there is now no possibility of survival given the amount of time that has passed. In such instances, the matter becomes a RCMP missing persons investigation.

In this situation, all efforts to find the missing person were exerted by the Coast Guard in an exhaustive search of an extremely large area of the ocean. Given the comprehensive efforts of the Coast Guard, the RCMP will not be conducting a search.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the crew members of the Sarah Anne and to the Town of St. Lawrence.
