Fort Vermilion RCMP arrest Dangerous Driver and seize drugs

Fort Vermilion, Alberta – One person facing drug charges after Fort Vermilion RCMP observe a dangerous driver in Mackenzie County.

On May 30, 2020 at approximately 7:10 p.m., a member of the Fort Vermilion RCMP, Mackenzie County Enhanced Unit, observed a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 697 towards La Crete, Alberta. The vehicle was observed swerving and passing in between other vehicles at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted, subsequently leading to the arrest of the driver. A search of the driver lead to a seizure of what was believed to be cocaine.

Sheila Ann Mitchell (59) of Fort Vermilion, has been charged with:

• Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance – Sect. 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code

• Possession of a Controlled Substance – Sect. 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act

• Operate motor vehicle without holding subsisting operator’s licence – Sect. 51(1) of the Traffic Safety Act

Sheila is scheduled to appear in Fort Vermilion provincial court on October 6, 2020, in relation to these allegations.
