Vegreville RCMP engage MCU to investigate sudden death – Update, Manslaughter charge laid

Vegreville, Alberta – An autopsy was competed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton. The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested and charged a male in connection with the sudden death investigation.

On June 2, 2020, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Vegreville RCMP responded to a 911 call regarding an injured male at a residence in Vegreville. The injured male was transported to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

Kevin Vrdolak (50) of Vegreville is now charged with manslaughter in the death of John Bijelic (57) of Vegreville.

He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on June 8, 2020. Police are not seeking any other suspects in relation to this investigation.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be provided.

Vegreville, Alberta – Following the death on June 2, 2020 of a 57-year-old male in a Vegreville hospital, the RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) have been engaged by Vegreville RCMP to assist in the death investigation.

The investigation is in its very preliminary stages and no further information is available. An autopsy will be conducted later this week, and an update will be provided by the RCMP following the autopsy.
