Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged three people after a stolen vehicle was recovered and weapons, cash and a small quantity of drugs were seized.
On June 23, 2020 members of the Crime Suppression Team were conducting an investigation into drug trafficking activity when they located a male subject driving a stolen truck. The male met up with two females in the parking lot of a hotel along Mayor Magrath Drive South and the trio entered a room. A short time later the male exited the room and was arrested before he could enter the truck. During a search of the male incidental to arrest police seized nearly $1,100 in cash, small quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl and the keys to the stolen truck. A search of the truck resulted in the seizure of an extendable baton, large knife and fake driver’s license.
Police knocked on the door of the hotel room and when it was opened a Conducted Energy Weapon was observed in plain sight. The two females were arrested and a search warrant for the room was subsequently obtained and executed. Police seized the CEW, assorted drug paraphernalia including a scale and packaging, and three pre-portioned packages of fentanyl.
Paul Wayne McCarthy, 40, of Coalhurst, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of the proceeds of crime, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a forged document, possession of a prohibited firearm and five counts of failing to comply with release conditions. He was also charged with multiple violations under the Traffic Safety Act. McCarthy was remanded in custody to appear in court June 25.
Shawntaya Gage Iron Shirt, 24, of Lethbridge, is charged with knowingly possessing a prohibited/restricted weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Iron Shirt was released from custody to appear in court Sept. 24.
Kayla Mae Robertson, 26, of Coalhurst, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and knowingly possession a prohibited/restricted weapon. Robertson was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 24.
