Morinville RCMP Charge Male from Edmonton With Hit and Run After Two Vehicle Collision with Injuries’ “male driver fled on foot leaving the scene not concerned with the welfare of the occupants”

Sturgeon County, Alberta – On July 4th, 2020 Morinville RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Range Road 265 and Township Road 552 in Sturgeon County. The male driver of a Dodge Pickup failed to yield at the intersection causing a collision with a SUV. Two female occupants of the SUV suffered minor injuries and were transported by EMS to hospital for treatment. The male driver fled on foot leaving the scene not concerned with the welfare of the occupants of the SUV. RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS) was called and attended but unfortunately lost the track.


Alert landowners almost 24 hours later spotted the same suspect in a nearby field and alerted police. The landowners on their own initiative set up containment until police arrived. PDS arrived again and was able to located the suspect hiding in a creek. The male was arrested and identified as Shane Sutherland from Edmonton, Alberta.

He is facing charges of Leaving the Scene of a Collision under the Criminal Code, Dangerous Driving under the Criminal Code, Drive while Prohibited, Breaching a Release Order for being behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, along with three Traffic Safety Act charges. The accused has been remanded into custody to July 9th, 2020 in Morinville Provincial Court.
