RCMP arrest dangerous driver from Calgary after collision at 44 Street and 47 Avenue in Lloydminster

Lloydminster, Saskatchewan – On July 3, 2020 at approximately 11:45 pm, Lloydminster RCMP received several 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle collision at 44 Street and 47 Avenue, where the suspect vehicle had fled from the scene. Witnesses indicated that a car travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 44 Street struck another vehicle from behind. The force of the collision caused the second vehicle to roll, resulting in non-life threatening injuries to the driver, who was transported to hospital by EMS.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle a short time later and the driver was arrested.

Bill Ly, 29, of Calgary, was charged with:

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

• Possession of over 30g of dried cannabis in a public place

Ly was released on $500 cash bail by a Justice of the Peace, to appear in Lloydminster (SK) court on August 24, 2020.

RCMP would like to acknowledge and thank the citizens who stopped and provided aid to the injured driver before emergency crews arrived on scene.
