Red Deer RCMP Respond to Call for Assistance; “A party of 11 river rafters became entangled with a bridge abutment”

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP responded to a request for assistance on the Red Deer River this afternoon. A party of 11 river rafters became entangled with a bridge abutment near Gaetz Avenue and required to be rescued. Red Deer City Emergency Services assisted in the rescue and deployed a watercraft. 7 rafters were located on one side of the river, 3 on the other side. The 11th person was located down river.

All 11 (9 adults and 2 youth) rafters were assisted from the river and no injuries were reported.

Red Deer RCMP would like to advise the public that the Red Deer river is currently flowing faster and higher than normal. As such all precautions should be taken when entering the waterway, including the wearing of personal flotation devices.
