Alberta Major Crimes investigate found human remains near Fort Vermilion, Alberta

Fort Vermilion, Alberta – On July 12, 2020, Fort Vermilion RCMP received information that clothing had been found in a forested area near Jon Dor Prairie, Alta., on the “old Fox Lake” road.

Further investigation in the area led police to a location where human remains were found. Fort Vermilion RCMP, along with RCMP Forensic Identification Services have remained on scene continuing this investigation. As there are indications this death may be suspicious, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes has taken over carriage of this investigation.

RCMP and support services remain on scene at this time. Once all examination of the scene has been completed, the human remains will be sent for autopsy at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, to be completed at a later date.

The identity of the deceased is unknown at this time.
