Steinbach RCMP arrest male after several people shot with paintballs

Steinbach, Manitoba – On July 12, 2020, at approximately 11:00 pm, Steinbach RCMP responded to a report of people being shot by paintballs, in a parking lot on Main Street, in Steinbach.

Witnesses reported that a vehicle drove up to a group of individuals, and a male opened fired with a paintball gun striking people, vehicles and a building, before leaving the scene.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle outside a residence on Third Street. The driver attempted to flee but was arrested without incident. He was searched and found to be in possession of cocaine. He was tested using the Approved Drug Screening Equipment and it determined that he was impaired by drugs. The suspect vehicle was searched and officers seized several weapons including paintball guns, knives, and a pellet gun.

Ruben Sweet, 25, from the RM of Hanover, has been charged with two counts of Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Mischief, three counts of Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Possession of Cocaine. He was also issued a 15 day driving suspension due to the positive drug result on the Approved Drug Screening Equipment.
