UPDATE: Autopsy complete in woman’s death; incident treated as murder-suicide: Edmonton & Sicamous Police

Edmonton, Alberta – An autopsy has been completed on 39-year-old Teresa Dejesus Esquivel-Robles, who was found deceased inside a residence last weekend.

At approximately 5 a.m., on Saturday, July 11, 2020, police attended a residence in the area of Mullen Road and Mullen Place after Esquivel-Robles was located deceased. The EPS issued a news release later in the day, seeking the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle of interest believed to be associated with her death.

Later that night (July 11, 2020), Sicamous RCMP located the vehicle of interest, a white 2019 Toyota Tacoma, sought by the EPS. The suspect and operator of the vehicle, later identified as 39-year-old Luis Antonio Candela-Gonzalez, was located deceased a short distance away.

An autopsy took place on Esquivel-Robles yesterday, Tuesday, July 14, 2020, and it was determined she died as a result of stab wounds. The manner of death is deemed homicide.

The Coroners Service of British Columbia continues to investigate the death of Candela-Gonzalez to determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his death. That said, the Sicamous RCMP do not believe any criminality was involved in Candela-Gonzalez’s sudden death.

No charges will be laid in this investigation and police are not seeking any additional suspects.

Edmonton, Alberta – The vehicle of interest associated to yesterday’s suspicious death has been located by the RCMP in British Columbia.

At approximately 5 a.m., on Saturday, July 11, 2020, police attended a residence in the area of Mullen Road and Mullen Place after a deceased woman was located. The EPS issued a news release later in the day, seeking the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle of interest believed to be associated with the woman’s death.

Late yesterday evening (July 11, 2020), Sicamous RCMP located the white 2019 Toyota Tacoma sought by the EPS. A 39-year-old male suspect, who is believed to have been operating the Toyota Tacoma, was located deceased a short distance away from the vehicle.

At this time, the Coroners Service of British Columbia will be conducting the autopsy on the 39-year-old male. The EPS will maintain the investigation into the woman’s death, while continuing to work closely with the Sicamous RCMP. An autopsy on the woman has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

Homicide Section is not looking for any additional suspects at this time. More information will be provided following autopsy results.

BACKGROUND

Edmonton, Alberta – Homicide Section is investigating a suspicious death and are seeking a vehicle of interest that may be connected.

At approximately 5 a.m. this morning, Saturday, July 11, 2020, police attended the area of Mullen Road and Mullen Place after a deceased person was located inside a residence. Due to the suspicious circumstances, the EPS’ Homicide Section has taken the lead of the investigation.

Currently, investigators are actively searching for a white 2019 Toyota Tacoma bearing license plate CDY-5152. Police are asking the public to be mindful of this vehicle and if seen, to contact police immediately. Citizens are cautioned not to approach the vehicle or anyone who may be inside.

An autopsy has yet to be scheduled and no further information is available at this time.
