Campbell River, BC – The RCMP have notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident which resulted in one man being taken to hospital in Campbell River.
On July 26, shortly after midnight, Campbell River RCMP attended a property that had been the subject of a noise complaint.
Officers arrived and located three intoxicated individuals. During the course of the interaction, one man became combative and despite attempts to de-escalate the situation a physical altercation ensued. The officers were eventually able to handcuff the man and transported him to cells.
Emergency Health Services were called but would not deal with the man due to his aggressive nature. Approximately two hours after he was brought to cells the man complained of pain. He was brought to hospital where it was determined that he had a possible fractured arm.
The IIO BC are now investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injury. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
