Cochrane RCMP Respond to Collision Caused by Dangerous Driving, Rescue Driver; “oncoming vehicles took evasive action to avoid colliding with the suspect vehicle”

Cochrane, Alberta – Early this morning, Cochrane RCMP responded to an incident in which a vehicle was driving head-on toward oncoming vehicles on Highway 22 north of Cochrane. As a result of the dangerous driving pattern, RCMP pursued the vehicle in the interest of public safety. Three oncoming vehicles took evasive action to avoid colliding with the suspect vehicle. A fourth vehicle, a semi, attempted to avoid a collision but the suspect vehicle clipped the side of the semi, entered the ditch and rolled. The suspect vehicle then caught fire.

Police arrived on scene immediately. Alberta Sheriffs were also on scene and were able put out the fire with extinguishers, while RCMP officers removed the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported by EMS to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No one in any of the other vehicles was injured.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. The investigation is ongoing and charges are anticipated for the 36 year old male driver from Calgary.
