Hythe, Alberta – Early this morning, the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) safely took a man into custody following almost four hours of police negotiations at a residence.
At 8:18 p.m. on August 11, Beaverlodge RCMP responded to a 911 call that an adult male was threatening people, and was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm. Beaverlodge RCMP members assisted in getting the victims to a safe location and contained the residence the male was located in.
Threats were directed towards the RCMP officers. Eventually, the ERT became activated, and they arrived at the residence at 2:00 a.m. this morning. At 5:51 a.m., the 57-year-old male was taken into police custody without further incident.
RCMP remained on scene at the residence in order to execute a search warrant. The RCMP are no longer on scene.
Charges are pending against the male and the investigation into this incident continues. This is an isolated incident, and further information will not be provided by the RCMP.
