RCMP investigating three adult drownings; “Three children, aged 10, 6 and 3, who remained on the bank yelled for assistance”

Crescent Falls, Alberta – The Rocky Mountain House RCMP with Clearwater Regional Fire Services and Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue responded last night to a rescue request at Crescent Falls.

At 8:02 p.m., the RCMP were advised that Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services was engaged with a swift water rescue. Indications are that three adults from one family went swimming at the bottom of the Falls. One of the adults got swept under the Falls, and the two remaining adults tried to assist when they also got swept under the Falls. Three children, aged 10, 6 and 3, who remained on the bank yelled for assistance.

Citizens who were on scene responded quickly and were able to retrieve the bodies of two of the adults. Efforts were made, unsuccessfully, to provide resuscitation.

The children were transported to a safe location with the assistance of the Victim Services Unit. They have since been connected with other family members.

The third adult was not recovered last night and operations needed to shut down in the evening. Agencies, including Parks, Conservation, Search and Rescue, Clearwater Regional Fire Services and Ahlstrom Air returned this morning. The third deceased person was recovered at approximately 2:30 p.m.
