Impaired operation of ATV results in pedestrian fatality

Fort Chipewyan, Alberta – The adult male pedestrian that sustained serious injuries from the ATV collision in Fort Chipewyan passed away on Aug. 12, 2020 while in hospital.

The 21-year-old female driver from Fort Chipewyan was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired causing death.

She was released after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Aug. 19, 2020.

Fort Chipewyan RCMP investigate fatal collision involving ATV

Fort Chipewyan, Alta. – On Aug. 3, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Fort Chipewyan RCMP were called to an all terrain vehicle (ATV) collision with a pedestrian. The female adult driver of the ATV remained on scene, on MacKenzie Avenue in Fort Chipewyan, Alta.

The pedestrian was unconscious at scene. Ground Ambulance Emergency Medical Services assisted with medical treatment for the adult male pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries and was air lifted to an Edmonton area hospital in critical condition. Next of kin have been contacted by police.

The driver was arrested and released. Charges are pending.

The RCMP investigation is ongoing and further details will be provided when available.
