Rural Kamloops police incident ends peacefully – UPDATED

Kamloops, BC – The police incident on Shuswap Road has now ended peacefully, with the apprehension of the distraught man at the scene.

A short time before 1:00 p.m., the individual was apprehended by RCMP at the scene, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP Southeast District. Following negotiations with the man, and the police tactics used, he presented himself peacefully at the front door of the home where he was safely taken into custody with the support of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team.

The suspect has now been identified by police as a 29-year-old Kamloops man. He remains in police custody at this time and faces a number of potential criminal charges connected to this morning’s incident.

Kamloops, BC – Kamloops TK’emlups Rural – A police incident that is currently unfolding on Shuswap Road has been contained to a single residence as officers continue their efforts to negotiate with a distraught male inside the home.

On August 18, 2020 at 9 a.m., Kamloops TK’emlups Rural RCMP was called to a home in the 700-block of Shuswap Road for reports of a disturbance inside the residence. A number of individuals have been able to safely exit the home.

Front line officers have established a perimeter around the home as police continue their efforts to make contact, communicate and negotiate with the man. The BC RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team along with specially trained crisis negotiators, have been called to the scene to assist.
