Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador – Twenty-seven-year-old Kyle Mercer of Upper Island Cove was taken into custody by Bay Roberts RCMP on August 28, 2020, following a disturbance outside a residence.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, Bay Roberts RCMP received a report that Mercer, who was believed to be intoxicated, was armed with an axe and was causing damage to items on the property.
Prior to police arrival, Mercer departed the residence in a vehicle but was located by Bay Roberts RCMP a short distance away. A traffic stop was conducted and Mercer, who showed signs of alcohol impairment, was arrested and taken into police custody. He was transported to the detachment for breath testing and refused to provide a breath sample.
Mercer appeared in court today via teleconference and was released on court ordered conditions.
He is charged with the following offences:
Refusing to provide a breath sample
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Two counts of Mischief (damage to property)
