Behchoko, Northwest Territories – The NT RCMP Historical Case Unit (HCU) is conducting an operation near Behchoko, in relation to missing Charlene Catholique’s investigation.
The HCU, with assistance from members of the NT RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Section, are searching an area of interest, near Behchoko.
The family of Charlene and community leadership of Behchoko are aware of the operation. The HCU understands this could be a stressful, upsetting time for the family, friends and community members.
The HCU have been actively investigating this file. A renewed call for public assistance was made on the 30th anniversary of Charlene’s disappearance, July 22nd. The HCU received many tips from the public, and are reviewing them.
On July 22nd, 1990, Charlene Catholique, who is from Lutsel K’e, was looking for a ride on Highway 3, near Behchoko. She was last seen walking along Highway 3 toward Yellowknife. She was 15 years old.
The Historical Case Unit was officially funded in the Spring of 2018 and operates as part of the Major Crimes Unit. The Unit has been fully staffed and operational since June of 2019. Their mandate is to maintain and investigate historical homicide and suspicious death, as well as long-term missing person’s files within the NWT.
