Red Deer RCMP arrest 55 people over week long warrant round up

Red Deer, Alberta – The Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) arrested 55 people and executed 130 warrants last week during a week-long warrant round up, clearing a total of 197 outstanding charges.

Between August 25 and 28, CRT members targeted offenders with outstanding warrants, many repeat or prolific offenders of property and drug offences.

“The warrant round-up is a valuable component of our crime reduction toolkit. We often apprehend repeat offenders with numerous outstanding warrants,” says Corporal Matthew Strader. “While some warrants can be for minor things, others can be quite serious. For example, we apprehended an individual who had a warrant for assaulting on a Peace Officer.”

Regardless of the charges, Red Deer RCMP want to encourage those with outstanding warrants to come to the downtown detachment to deal with their warrants in a proactive manner.

The warrant round-up is spearheaded by the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team, Downtown Patrol Unit and general duty police officers, with significant support from municipal staff members including criminal analysts and watch clerks.
