Cornwall man charged with numerous offences after ramming RCMP cruiser, fleeing scene

Cornwall, Prince Edward Island – On Wednesday, September 9th at approximately 5:50 pm, Queens District RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the Cornwall area. Officers made an immediate patrol to the area and located the vehicle on Lacardy Drive in Cornwall.

The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver proceeded to ram the police cruiser. The suspect vehicle rammed the police cruiser several times eventually pushing it into a nearby ditch. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

The driver, a 54 year-old Cornwall man, Clifford Ray Wilson, was located approximately 10 minutes later on a nearby street in Cornwall and was arrested.

The police cruiser sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene. Both the suspect and the police officer of the rammed vehicle were examined by Island EMS at the scene. Neither sustained serious injuries.

Mr. Wilson is currently in custody facing charges of assaulting a police officer, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, breach of probation and driving while suspended.
