Airdrie RCMP execute search warrant and seize significant amount of drugs

Airdrie, Alberta – On Sept. 9, 2020, Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a search warrant at an Airdrie residence. As a result of this search warrant, CRU arrested three people and seized a significant amount of drugs.

RCMP seized the following drugs at the residence:

· 69.7 g Carfentanil

· 15.7 g Methamphetamine

· 35.8 g Cocaine

· 1.5L Gamma-HydroxyButyrate (GHB)

· 2.7 g Psilocybin (Mushrooms)

· Approximately 20 pills of Xanax

· $1630 Canadian cash proceeds

Cody Alexander Van Dyk (26 yrs) of Airdrie, Alta has been charged with:

· Possession of a controlled substance (heroin)

He was released on documents and will be appearing in Alberta Provincial court on Nov. 5, 2020.

Alex James Syer (23 yrs) of Airdrie, Alta has been charged with:

Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x6)

Trafficking in a controlled substance (Carfentanyl)

Possession of Property obtained by crime (x2)

Kenedee Christine Taylor (22 yrs) of Airdrie, Alta has been charged with:

Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x6)

Possession of Property obtained by crime (x1)

Both Alex Syer and Kenedee Taylor were released from custody on conditions and will be appearing in Alberta Provincial court on Oct. 1, 2020.

This drug seizure was quite significant, especially considering there was Carfentanil in the residence. Carfentanil is one of the most toxic opioids currently known, with studies showing it to be 10, 000 times more potent than morphine, 4000 times more potent that heroin, and 100 times more potent than Fentanyl. Like Fentanyl, Carfentanil can be absorbed through accidental inhalation of airborne powder, which makes its exposure and handling dangerous.
