Fort MacLeod RCMP respond to Serious MVC on Hwy 3 near the Monarch turnoff – UPDATED

Fort MacLeod, Alta. – On September 12, 2020 at 4 pm the Fort MacLeod RCMP were called to a report of a car travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 3. Police immediately responded, however while en route additional calls were received that the eastbound vehicle had hit a westbound SUV causing a head on collision, west of the Monarch turnoff.

The driver of the car and lone occupant, was airlifted by Stars to a Calgary hospital with serious injuries.

The two occupants of the SUV were taken by ground ambulance to a Calgary hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.

Traffic was rerouted for several hours while the RCMP, Fire and EMS attended to the injured and began an investigation. A collision analyst also attended to conduct a scene examination.

BACKGROUND

Fort McLeod, Alberta – (6:00 PM) – Fort MacLeod RCMP are currently on scene of a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 3 near the Monarch turnoff. All westbound traffic is being diverted onto Monarch. Eastbound traffic is flowing normally.

Driver’s are being asked to avoid the area.

No further details are known at this time. An update will be provided when the highway is clear.
