Harbour Grace RCMP responds to stabbing; one man arrested and charged with a number of offences

Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and Labrador – Following a report of a stabbing at a residence in Tilton on September 12, 2020, 21-year-old Mitchell Butler was arrested and is charged with aggravated assault and a number of other criminal offences.

At approximately 12:40 a.m. on Saturday morning, Harbour Grace and Bay Roberts RCMP were dispatched to a report of a man who was attacked with a knife. Officers attended the hospital in Carbonear, where the man was receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

A search warrant for the residence was obtained and the scene was processed by the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. The suspect, Mitchell Butler of St John’s, was later located and arrested by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in St John’s.

Butler currently remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Harbour Grace today to answer to charges as follows:

Aggravated Assault

Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Assault with a Weapon

Uttering Threats

Breach of Probation.

The victim was released from hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
