Edmonton, Alberta – A 33-year-old prolific offender is in custody following a vicious, random assault at the MacEwan LRT Station late Tuesday morning, which sent a 61-year-old male to hospital, unconscious and with serious injuries.
It was reported to police that at approximately 11:50 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, the accused approached the male complainant, an LRT Station cleaner, who was busy working at the time of the incident. The accused is alleged to have subsequently produced a knife and demanded the complainant’s cell phone.
The complainant attempted to run to safety but was caught by the accused and viciously assaulted. The accused then fled the LRT Station, leaving the complainant lying unconscious on the ground, before allegedly threatening another male complainant with a knife outside of a downtown commercial complex near Churchill Square.
Downtown Division patrol officers then responded to the commercial complex and arrested a male suspect, who they subsequently linked to the first violent attack at the MacEwan LRT Station, thanks to surveillance images.
Police have since charged Terrence MacLean, 33, with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon (x2), robbery, mischief and fail to comply with probation.
The 61-year-old complainant was treated and transported to hospital with very serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
