UPDATE: Airdrie RCMP lay charges in weekend BB gun shooting spree

Airdrie, Alberta – It was a scary time for some Airdrie citizens and local RCMP on Friday night. At approximately 9:34 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2020, Airdrie RCMP responded to multiple 911 calls of a male suspect randomly shooting people.

This shooting spree started at a few residences in the McKenzie Way neighbourhood and proceeded to the downtown core. Members quickly responded and saw the male suspect running away from the scene. He was located hiding and taken into custody without incident.

Three other males were arrested but later released as investigation revealed they were not involved. 6 people were injured during this incident. One injured person required medical assistance to remove a BB from their person. The others suffered minor injuries.

Adam James Ferrier (19 yrs) of Airdrie, Alta has been charged with 20 Criminal Code offences:

Discharge an air gun with intent to wound (x6)

Assault with a weapon (x5)

Aggravated Assault

Use an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Trespass at night

Mischief (x2)

Breach of Probation (x3)

Adam Ferrier will be appearing in Airdrie Provincial court on October 15th, 2020.

Airdrie, Alberta – The Airdrie RCMP took four males into custody following complaints of victims being shot with BB guns.

At 9:30 p.m. last night, multiple calls were received about males with a gun. The RCMP responded actively, including deploying Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team. Calgary Police Service’s HAWCS assisted while RCMP were searching for the males.

By 11:45 p.m., the RCMP took four males into custody and the shelter in place in the downtown core was lifted.

Three of the males have been released and charges are pending against one 19-year-old male from Airdrie, who remains in custody.

Six people were treated for minor injuries.

The investigation continues.

Airdrie RCMP investigate reports of an active shooter

Airdrie, Alta – Airdrie RCMP are currently investigating an incident which has lead to multiple people injured from at least 6 different locations.

At this time it appears that BB guns were used in the “shootings”. One person is in custody and RCMP are looking for the others involved.

RCMP has businesses in a “Shelter in place” in the downtown core. Anyone in the downtown/midtown communities are asked to stay inside.

This is an unfolding situation and more information will be released when it becomes available.
