Slave Lake, Alberta – An investigation into the June 2019 homicide of Darren Dawson has led to an arrest and charges against Matthew Perry (24).
On Friday, Sept. 18, Perry was arrested for murder. He was in custody at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre for unrelated offences. He has been charged with the following offences:
– Second degree murder
– Causing an indignity to a body
The arson is in relation to the murder and occurred at the Hamlet of Widewater, Alta.
Perry remains in custody and is scheduled for his next court appearance on Wednesday September 23, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Slave Lake Provincial Court.

Slave Lake RCMP – RCMP Major Crimes Unit Investigating Sudden Death – Update #1
Slave Lake, Alta. – An autopsy was completed on Tuesday June 4, 2019 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and the manner of death of Darren Dawson was deemed a homicide.
No further information is available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Slave Lake RCMP – RCMP Major Crimes Unit Investigating Sudden Death
Slave Lake, Alberta – The Slave Lake RCMP and the RCMP K Division Major Crimes Unit are investigating after a man’s body was located on May 31.
Just after 1:30 a.m. on May 31, Slave Lake RCMP and Fire Services were dispatched to a report of a fire, approximately 20 km. west of the Town of Slave Lake. While putting out this fire, a body was discovered at the scene. This fire is not a part of the wildfire that continues to burn in the area.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called in to assist and the deceased was identified as 30-year-old Darren Dawson, an Alberta resident. Next of kin have been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office.
