Jasper, Alta., – Last night at approximately 6 p.m., Parks Canada Visitor Safety personnel utilizing a helicopter located two bodies in the Verdant Pass area in Jasper National Park. Given the remote location and the loss of daylight, recovery efforts could not be completed at that time.
Recovery efforts continued this morning and Jasper RCMP, along with Parks Canada Visitor Safety personnel, recovered two bodies which are believed to be the missing couple, Matthew Kozak and Zabrina Ferrier.
Jasper RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate. It is believed the couple were hiking and succumbed to their injuries after falling from a steep bank in the area.
Family members have been advised and police are asking media to respect their need for privacy during this difficult time.
No further updates are anticipated.
Killam, Alberta – Killam RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 32-year-old Matthew Kozak and 25-year-old Zabrina Paige Ferrier. Kozak was last seen at work in Forestburg, Alta on Sept. 18, 2020 and Ferrier was last seen in Galahad on Sept. 18, 2020. The couple have often gone to Mount Edith Cavell Road trails and their Hyundai Kona vehicle was located in a parking lot at this location. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
Matthew is described as:
· 5’ 8” tall
· About 200lbs
· Short red hair
· Blue eyes
· Had in his possession hiking gear and a tent
Zabrina is described as:
· 5’ 7” tall
· Approximately 140 lbs
· Blond shoulder length hair
· Blue eyes
