Airdrie RCMP seize drugs and a sawed off shotgun during traffic stop

Rocky View County, Alberta – On Sept. 18, 2020 at approximately 03:15 a.m., Airdrie RCMP conducted a traffic stop near the Century Downs Casino located in Balzac, Alta. Upon contact with the driver the officer made observations that lead to an arrest for drug possession.

A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest resulted in the seizure of what is believed to be Methamphetamine along with an assortment of drug paraphernalia. As well, members located a 20 gauge Mossberg shotgun that had been modified by cutting off the stock and a portion of the barrel. A “sawed off” shotgun is considered a prohibited weapon.

Colin Stanley Hetherington (36 yrs) of Calgary, Alta has been charged with 9 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:

Possession of a prohibited weapon

Possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Possession of a controlled substance
