Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador – Thirty-two-year-old Federal parolee Ricky Halfyard of Deer Lake was arrested yesterday by RCMP following a traffic stop and is charged with drug and weapons offences.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m. police conducted a planned traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway just west of Deer Lake and temporarily blocked off the area to ensure public safety. Officers located a quantity of suspected cocaine and a large sum of money within the car. Halfyard was taken into custody, with the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services and officers with the RCMP Emergency Response Team and Deer Lake Detachment.
Police departed the traffic stop and went directly to Halfyard’s residence. A warrant authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, that was obtained prior to the traffic stop, was executed on the home. Officers located another quantity of suspected cocaine, a large amount of cash and an assault-style firearm.

Halfyard was on parole for a conviction in a 2017 violent drug-related home invasion where he used a firearm. He remains in custody at this time and his parole is revoked.
He is charged with the following offences:
Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
Possession of a firearm while prohibited
Unsafe storage of a firearm
The investigation is continuing.
