UPDATE: Wanted Calgary man arrested in BC

Calgary, Alberta – Wyatt READER, a man wanted in Calgary in connection with a violent domestic incident, has been arrested by the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

We asked for help from BC residents last week after our investigators found evidence that READER was living in a vehicle in the BC interior. Canada-wide warrants were issued for his arrest and information about him was shared with police agencies in the area where he was thought to be located.

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, the RCMP in Vernon were called about suspicious activity at a local store. They arrested and charged READER in connection with that incident.

We are now working with partner agencies to bring him back to Calgary to face his domestic charges.

“Domestic violence is a serious matter and it is not uncommon to see people cross borders to try and escape charges,” said Staff Sergeant Paul Wozney, with the Domestic Conflict Unit. “Canadian law enforcement agencies are very well integrated and share information seamlessly, so sooner or later a person with warrants will be found.”

READER, 21, of Calgary, is charged with assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, forcible confinement, and five counts of failing to comply with court orders connected to a domestic incident on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, during which it is believed a female was violently assaulted.

BACKGROUND

Calgary, Alberta – We are asking for the public’s help to locate a Calgary man accused of domestic offences who we believe has fled to British Columbia.

Wyatt READER, 21, of Calgary, is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, forcible confinement, and five counts of failing to comply with court orders.

READER is charged in connection with a domestic incident that occurred on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, during which it is believed a female was violently assaulted.

We have been looking for READER since the incident but now believe he has left Calgary and is living in his vehicle somewhere in central BC. He was last seen the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, in Kamloops and has also been recently spotted in the Salmon Arm area. It is possible that he is heading for the Lower Mainland.

READER is described as 5’10” tall, with an average build, brown hair, and hazel eyes. He is believed to have a recent cut on his left arm from the incident on the weekend and he was last seen wearing a black baseball cap and grey T-shirt.

He was driving a black, 2020 Kia Sorrento SUV. His licence plate is unknown as the vehicle is not registered and may be using either stolen or cloned plates.

Police agencies across Canada work together closely to try to locate and arrest people with outstanding warrants. When a person with warrants connected to a serious crime leaves Calgary, we continue to track them and alert local police in places we believe they may be staying. We also regularly work with partners across the country to locate and find people who flee to Calgary to avoid arrest at home.

This cooperation helps ensure people are brought to justice no matter where they go and helps protect all communities across the country from people who may pose a risk to public safety.
