Okotoks, Alberta – On Oct. 12, 2020 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Okotoks RCMP responded to a robbery at the Rogers Communications store on Southridge Drive.
Four males entered the store, assaulted the two employees and demanded phones. The males left the store in a vehicle with a large amount of cell phones and other electronic devices. The employees sustained minor injuries.
With the assistance of Calgary Police Service HAWCS, the vehicle was located and lead police to a residence in South East Calgary where Calgary Police Service arrested five males.
Okotoks General Investigation Section (GIS) with the assistance of Calgary RCMP Forensic Identification Services executed search warrants on the residence in Calgary and the associated vehicle. As a result of the search warrant police seized over $70,000 worth of cell phones and other electronic devices.
Five male youths from Calgary have been charged with:
• Robbery (x2)
• Forcible Confinement (x2)
• Uttering Threats (x2)
• Mischief under $5000
• Flight from Police
All five male youths were remanded into custody following a Judicial Hearing and are scheduled to appear on Oct. 16, 2020 in Okotoks Provincial Court.
The youth cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
