Rocky Mountain House RCMP investigate fatal collision on Highway 22

Clearwater County, Alberta – The Rocky Mountain House RCMP are investigating a three vehicle collision which occurred on October 14 and resulted in the death of one adult male.

At 3:56 p.m., RCMP responded to a 911 call that a collision had occurred at the intersection of Highway 22 and Echo Canyon Drive, north of Rocky Mountain House. Two pick up trucks and one highway tractor trailer unit were involved.

A pick up truck was travelling northbound on Highway 22 and stopped to turn on to Echo Canyon Drive. Another pick up truck travelling northbound behind collided with the stopped pick up. The first pick up truck was then struck by a tractor trailer unit travelling southbound. The 34-year-old male driver of the first pick up truck died on scene. The 24-year-old male driver of the second referenced pick up truck was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer unit was not injured.

Traffic was diverted on the highway for several hours while the RCMP collision reconstructionist conducted a scene examination. The cause and all contributing factors related to this collision remain under police investigation.

The RCMP would like to thank their partner agency; the Department of Highways for their assistance. The motoring public is also thanked for their patience and compliance with the diversion while the investigation was underway.
