Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador – Multiple charges and seizures were initiated by Bay St. George RCMP as a result of traffic stops over the Thanksgiving weekend.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on October 10, police officers on patrol on Main Road in Heatherton conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 51-year-old male, exhibited signs of impairment. A roadside breath test was administered and registered a warning. He was issued a driver’s license suspension and the vehicle impounded.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on October 11, Bay St. George RCMP were on patrol on Route 480 in Burgeo and conducted a traffic stop after viewing a vehicle driving erratically. The driver, a 23-year-old male, passed a sobriety test. However, police officers observed two open cases of beer in plain view in the backseat. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 20 grams of mushrooms and a pellet handgun, among other items. The male was arrested for drug possession, having open liquor in the vehicle and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in court at a later date.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on October 12, Bay St. George RCMP officers on patrol in the Peter Strides area of Burgeo conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 56-year-old male was administered a roadside breath test, which registered a warning. He was issued a driver’s license suspension and his vehicle was impounded.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 12, Bay St. George RCMP observed a vehicle being driven in an odd manner on Route 480 in Burgeo, at a very low speed with multiple stops for no reason and a signal light on but the vehicle not turning. The driver, a 50-year-old male, failed a breath test. He was issued a driver’s license suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He will appear in court at a later date to face a charge of impaired driving.
